Ahead of the Fort William World Cup and in-between moving houses, we sat down with Matt Simmonds for a quick chat, check it out below!
Lourdes wasn’t too bad. I managed to get down in the dry but you could see the weather was getting worse!
Results wise – it wasn’t where I wanted to be unfortunately, we had done a few good races in Portugal and were doing well but got to Lourdes, couldn’t figure the track out and was just playing catch up.
Since then we’ve come back for the National rounds, been up to Fort William and changed a few things on the bike which is making me feel more comfortable and back up to pace.
The BDS round at Fort Bill was going well but mechanicals struck at the worst time – with a track like Fort William you’re riding well to get down the track with no issues anyway! Still, we’ll take the good from it – the pace was there and I just need to stay fit and healthy before World Cup now.
Yep, a highlight of the year! Family, friends, Madison, everyone comes up for it and you just buzz the whole time – definitely looking forward to it.
I’ve been training a lot at Revolution Bike Park which is pretty much on my doorstep. It’s really important to get time on the race bike so any gym work has taken a bit of a back seat for now.
Lourdes was good because the fans were crazy for it but… it’s not the home nation… you go out the start gate and people are chanting your name – it’s the closest you ever come to feeling actually famous!
Looking forward to Leogang as well though which is straight after Fort William, and I really enjoy the track there – I don’t mind a bit of pedalling so it suits me!
Best of luck to Matt Simmonds and the rest of the Madison Saracen this weekend!
