Report: British Downhill Series Round One

Matt Walker soaked up a huge slam in his finals run as the 2023 UK race season got underway for round one of the British downhill series.

The Rheola track in Wales is known as one of the most challenging on offer and it lived up to that billing, claiming multiple victims throughout the weekend.

Matt's crash came midway through a finals run - up until which point he was in the hunt for a podium placing. Needless to say, Matt's crash (luckily caught on camera!) was the end of his challenge and he will re-group for the next one!

New signing Greg Williamson held it together for tenth-place in a stacked elite field, as preparations continue for the opening round of the World Cup on June 9.

Stepping out alongside the Factory Race Team were the Development Squad. Under the tutelage of Matt Simmonds, this was their first outing in Madison Saracen colours as they make their first moves on the same development pathway as Matt Walker, Manon Carpenter and Jordan Williams to name just three!

Starting out their journey in the youth category, Felix Griffiths and George Madley got their first taste of the podium, taking third and fourth position and the top two rookie placings.

Round two of the series will visit Fort William on May 6-7.
