FAQ
-
Q: What size mountain bike does my child need?
A: A child’s mountain bike size is mainly based on their height and wheel size. The right fit should allow the rider to stand over the bike comfortably with a slight bend in the knees and reach the handlebars without stretching. The Ariel Junior is designed for serious young riders aged from seven to nine, featuring 24-inch wheels and 120mm of suspension travel. It is ideally suited to riders between 125cm and 145cm tall.
Q: What age is a 24 inch mountain bike for?
A: A 24 inch mountain bike is typically suitable for children aged around 7 to 9 years old, depending on their height. It is often the stage where kids move from basic bikes into more capable off-road mountain bikes. Fit is more important than age, so height guides should always be checked. The right fit should allow the rider to stand over the bike comfortably with a slight bend in the knees and reach the handlebars without stretching.
Q: Is a full suspension mountain bike good for kids?
A: Yes, a full suspension junior MTB can be great for kids who are riding off-road trails because it improves comfort, grip, and control on rough ground. However, it is best suited to confident riders rather than complete beginners. Simpler hardtail bikes may be easier for first-time off-road riders.
Q: Are junior mountain bikes harder to pedal?
A: Junior mountain bikes with suspension can feel slightly heavier and less efficient than basic kids’ bikes, but they are designed to be manageable for their size. The trade-off is better control and comfort on trails. On hills, gearing is designed to help make pedalling easier.
Q: What type of mountain bike is best for a child beginner?
A: For beginners, a lightweight hardtail MTB is usually the best starting point because it is easier to pedal and maintain. As skills improve, a full suspension junior MTB can offer more comfort and control on rougher trails. The choice depends on confidence level and riding environment.
